archive 17- LSD MARCH LIVE”
Another one of those releases that had an absurdly fast genesis. I was folding the Haino CD’s and putting them in the sleeves feed by a steady soundtrax of Lez rallizes Denudes boots when it hit me.. Damn this stuff is amazing. With that thought progressed to emailing Shinsuke to releases and live CD of burned up flamed out tunes. His response was basically “ok I’ll send you a master” and that was that. Single pressing of 500 with some really wonderful graphic work from Joe Denardo of Growing. Was the first release in some time to actually feature color which was great to see and definitely a minimal cover feel completely free of text adored with only the ever stretching photo of Shinsuke in front of some monument?? I think it was in euro somewhere??
The band sold copies of this release during Euro dates early 2006. Mail-order copies sold in one day which was surprisingly quick considering I didn’t think the band was all that well known. Actually they blurred out of here so fast I sort of fucked up and didn’t save one for myself. A number of the mail-order copies did make their way into distro’s and stores some of which may even still have copies currently

Plotkin did mastering work which on this project which his job was to make sure everything was ear splitting loud, job well done! The tracks on this release are from a variety of dates and the line-up differ slightly as well.. all and all though it’s one of my fav releases for design, and audio content

CURRENTLY SOLD OUT

archive 18 LSD MARCH “EMPTY RUBIOUS RED”
So when I did the sales on the Earth Live Hex I also did distro on a micro self released by LSD March Called “empty rubious Red” Shinsuke had sent one of these to me with the LSD March Live master. The record took me by surprise as everything I had heard to date was fairly lo-fi garage type psych work. This CD was totally different quiet somber almost sad songs. The entire CD was nearly a solo effort with Shinsuke playing almost everything on the disc minus drums on two tracks. I inquired about getting copies of the Cd for distro since I liked it so much and bought 50 copies. Of the total pressing that Shinsuke said was only 200. Seemed like a no brainer at that point to ask about doing the re-issue as I thought the disc was too good to let slip away to be unheard. We ended up doing 600 copies in re-issue with Joe Denardo using graphic elements from the live CD for this layout. One of the things I liked so much about the live disc and this one was the disc face graphic work to show that off better we used an acetate cover of a cloud so you could see more of this as the focal image of swirling hair. The re-issue also contains an extra take of the title trax and had some slight brushing up on the mastering side from Mr. Plotkin once again.

This disc as it turns out was the first non live CD for the label.

Check the shop I still have a few of them in stock but down to like 10 copies

archive 19 PLOTKIN/ WYSKIDA “8 improvisations”
I had been keeping James fairly busy with mastering jobs with the batch of releases that had come out over the last 3-4 months, and I sort of had lost track to the fact that James had a bunch of solo and collab. Work to his credit. Anyway, I expressed interest in doing something with him and asked what he had going on currently. He mentioned that he had been jamming at the Khanate reh. space with Jim Wyskida (khanate drummer) and that some of that stuff was really cool. I was like “yeah sounds great I’d be into it” and with that those two guys got on board and did some recording work and within a month I had a disc to send out to the pressing plant. Material has a big range from ambient sound scapes, drones and even almost electric jazz work. The 70+ min finished release was pretty diverse in style. One thing I think that differentiates this release from other guitar drum improv. works is the duo’s inherit background in heavy music. Def. leads to a different vibe then other doodlers out there.

The layout is something we probably would have handed off to SOMA but he was off on some massive tour with earth and Sunno))) and James and I dove in and hacked out a layout over the course of two week using the same format that I’ve used with other releases. 2.5 panel job with hub on the inside.. Sort of the label identity at this point. The actually source images are photo’s I took at the Camden aquarium when I visiting on a day trip with my daughter.. Rather funny I ended up with a release layout from that trip, but whatever works I guess???

This release we ended up doing 1000 copies in an effort to keep something in print for longer then a weekend. A response to some of the mild backlash from the earth release being sold in 2 hours. Two different versions exist one red and one blue. And yes is still have some in the shop. MP3 sample also in shop

coming soon to be released with Keiji Haino Animama on May 27th yeah yeah more improv stuff....Kurt Johnson most notable I suppose would be his stint as the bassist for the Chicago based FLYING LUTTENBACHERS. Anyway Kurt is a fellow haino’phile and someone I’ve corresponded with over the years. He bought one of the Haino double discs from me and when I shipped in his package I threw in the Dikeman CD, as I knew he circulated a little amongst some of the folks on that disc. Kurt emailed back and mentioned that he had played some gigs with Tatsuya Nakatani and that he’d send them out for me to check out. Cool, totally liked Tatsuya percussion work on the handful of discs I have of him. Mail comes like a week or so later I drop the disc in the tray and wholly shit this infernal racket comes slamming out the speakers fantastic I thought sounds like the whole damn band kicked down a flight of stairs over and over. I was def. expecting some light noodling or polite improv. Work but I suppose with Kurt’s background I should have known better. After a few listens I pitched him on the idea and we squared away the details and we had a release!! Here’s the line-up

KURT JOHNSON- bass guitar, double bass, electronics
KYLE BRUCKMANN- minimoog, electronics, suona
TATSUYA NAKATANI- drums percussion

Def. a low-end thundering herd monster of a release. Kind of old material that had been kicking around awhile. Two different live sets one from late 01, the other from 02, but I think it’s cool they get to see the light of day.

Layout is a graphic design adapted by Chris Alpino of some paintings from Lisa Mordhorts stretched over my standard 2.5 panel sleeve, with disc attached via hub on the inside.

$11 post paid in the US will be released May27th   audio sample here

Finished print work actually has the pics on the far left  on the inside not the right side as in the layout..top panel the front cover.
